2025 AREMA Educational Foundation Scholarship Application

The AREMA Educational Foundation provides scholarships to engineering students who are specializing in the railway industry and supports other educational and training endeavors that help to ensure the future of the profession. The Foundation is pleased to announce the availability of several scholarships for the 2025 academic year. This application process applies to all Scholarships offered by the AREMA Educational Foundation. The Scholarship Review Committee will determine which Scholarship(s) the candidate suits best.

To be eligible for consideration, applicants must be enrolled in a Graduate or Undergraduate program leading to a degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology in a curriculum which has been accredited by the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology (or comparable accreditation in Canada and Mexico). Graduate and Undergraduate students will be judged separately. The applicant must have at least a 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale and be an AREMA Member. A scholarship committee appointed by AREMA Committee 24 - Education & Training, will base its evaluation for awards on material submitted. Successful applicants will be informed of awards in March 2025. Only one scholarship is awarded per qualified applicant.

To complete your 2025 application the following information is required on the online form:

  • A personal statement, not to exceed 350 words, explaining why the applicant believes he/she is deserving of an AREMA Educational Foundation Scholarship. The applicant should indicate areas of railroading which might be of particular interest (freight, signals and communication, computers, passenger and transit, bridges and structures, geotechnical, environmental, rail construction, or other) and describe how his/her attributes relate to these areas. 
  • A history of recent work experience, not to exceed 350 words
  • Provide information, not to exceed 150 words, of the applicants extracurricular activities/outside interests
  • Current GPA
  • Contact information for two references that may be contacted by the scholarship committee
