The Railway Engineering Education Symposium (REES) is a unique opportunity for university faculty to delve into the world of railway engineering.  Led by experienced professors who have successfully guided their students into the rail industry, REES equips participants with hands-on knowledge and lecture materials, preparing them to introduce railway engineering content into their curriculum and ultimately, increase the number of engineers in the railway industry.

The Railway Engineering Education Symposium (REES) is a prestigious event, developed by the AREMA Educational Foundation in partnership with the American Public Transportation Association (APTA). It was created to address the growing need for engineers in the railway industry, a need underscored by high retirement rates, projected industry growth, and the renewed interest in high-speed passenger rail research and deployment. The fact that industry giants like Warren Buffett and Bill Gates have invested in the future of railways in North America further underscores the importance of this event.

The Railway Engineering Education Symposium (REES) has been held bi-annually since 2008. Each event attracts over 30 engineering faculty members from across the United States and Canada with programs in electrical, civil, and mechanical engineering.

REES Content modules suitable for classroom presentations are available online for participants to review before the event. The on-site program includes lab instruction and field trips to local rail facilities. Participation in REES is offered by invitation at no cost to qualified individuals. REES also provides travel expense reimbursement for a limited number of participants on a first-come, first-served basis. If you are interested in participating in the REES program, please complete an application to attend.
