AREMA Educational Foundation
2010 Scholarships
The AREMA Educational Foundation provides scholarships to engineering students who are specializing in the railway industry and supports other educational and training endeavors that help to ensure the future of the profession.
The Foundation is pleased to announce the following scholarships to be awarded in 2010.
General criteria for all scholarship applicants include having an interest in railway engineering, maintaining a minimum GPA of 2.0, and being available for interview by the AREMA Scholarship Committee.
The 2010 application form applies to all Scholarships offered by AREMA. By completion of this form, the Scholarship Review Committee will determine which Scholarship(s) the candidate qualifies for.

AREMA Scholarship ($1000) Enrolled student who has completed at least one quarter or semester in an accredited* four or five year engineering or engineering technology undergraduate degree program.
Michael W. & Jean D. Franke Family Engineering student pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
AREMA Presidential Enrolled female student who has completed at least one quarter or semester in an accredited* four or five year engineering or engineering technology undergraduate Michigan Tech Alumni Scholarship ($1000) Undergraduate or Graduate engineering student in good standing at Michigan Tech University. New York Central Railroad Enrolled student who has completed at least one quarter Norfolk Southern Enrolled student who has completed at least one quarter Union Pacific Enrolled student who is in their Sophomore, Junior or |
John J. Cunningham Junior or Senior college student pursuing an undergraduate degree in a professional field that has direct applications in the passenger rail sector. Committee 12 Enrolled student who has completed at least one quarter or semester in an accredited* engineering program OR part time student working full time in the railway industry. Committee 24 Current AREMA Student Member who has completed at least on quarter or semester in an accredited* four or five year engineering or engineering technology undergraduate degree program.
Committee 27 – Maintenance-of-Way Scholarships Enrolled student who has completed at least one quarter Committee 33 - Electric Energy Preference will be given to those applicants demonstrating an interest in the field of rail traction electrification systems engineering. Committee 36 - Highway-Rail Grade Crossing Warning Systems Scholarship ($2,000) - NEW Enrolled student pursuing a BS or MS in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil or Computer Science Engineering or Technology at an accredited institution, who has demonstrated an interest in railroad Signal Engineering or RR Public Works through active participation in AREMA or through intern or summer employment. Committtee 37 Student pursuing a four or five year Electrical or HNTB Founder's Scholarship ($2500) Junior or Senior undergraduate student pursuing a degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering showing interest for bridge or structures engineering. Michael and Gina Garcia Student enrolled in a four or five year accredited* undergraduate engineering or engineering technology program. Priority given to students who are married and/or supporting a family while enrolled as a student. |
*Programs accredited by the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology (or comparable organization in Canada and Mexico).
